Barcelona unveiled Rafa Llorente as the club’s new manager on Friday, but they also expressed interest in bringing back Xavi. Here is the latest on the situation.
Llorente, a defender, becomes the sixth manager in four years after replacing the Portuguese manager Ronald Koeman, who was dismissed on Friday.
Adil Rami is also being linked with a move back to Barcelona from Marseille, according to Reuters.
Xavi, who is in his 29th year with Barcelona, will play in the club’s next match, against Juventus in the Champions League semifinal, but is reportedly refusing to sign a new contract.
Xavi, who is an honorary member of the team, has been credited with helping to develop many of Barcelona’s all-time greats. He is the former captain of the team, and won the Ballon d’Or on five occasions. He was announced as the club’s honorary captain before the start of the 2016-17 season.
Xavi has announced that he will not sign a new contract to remain at Barcelona. Barcelona are considering bringing back Xavi on a part-time or seasonal basis.
